Keynote + Workshop

The theme for the SVRWA conference is "Prepare to Pitch." The organizers are gearing everything toward helping the career author succeed in his/her chosen job path. All workshops/panels/speeches are tailored to address the "profession" of writing rather than the "craft" of writing. As it was described to me: "Time management, professionalism, mistakes (and how to recover) when you decide to become a professional writer, maximizing your earning potential by writing for multiple genres, author/agent relationships, marketing your name, standing out in the crowded market, choosing category vs. single title, and the like."

Aside from the keynote, I'll probably do my Book of Your Smarts workshop. This sounds like a really great conference! More Information

7 Minutes of Fame on the Radio!

Okay, I made that up. Sort of. I'm still getting the full scoop on this one, but I'm told I'll be reading from Adventures of an Ice Princess for 7 minutes on KALW radio (91.7) in conjunction with my panel appearance (see below!) for the San Francisco Chronicle-sponsored "Litquake." I will try to forget that I sound like a Smurf on my answering machine. Not intentially, believe you me. Nobody can stand the sound of their own recorded voice. Except James Earl Jones, probably. (The best part is that if I'm only using up 7 minutes of my fame, I have 8 more coming!)
