Liz worked in Antarctica during the "summer" seasons of 2002-2003 and 2003-2004. Her experience at McMurdo Station, one of three scientific research stations operated by the United States Antarctic Program became fodder for her October 2004 book, Adventures of an Ice Princess. Check out these pixs of Liz frolicking on the final frontier, and be sure to click on the thumbnail for the full effect.
